Great post. The because I said so part always seem to get negative results.
I think it takes a lot of study, prayer and inspiration to explain a principle well enough so the people (children) you are teaching will want to obey. I always found that if I was following the commandments to the best of my ability, the right words usually came out of my mouth. When I wasn’t in tune, the words weren’t there. Wish I could have always been in tune.
Rusty, You are right on! My kids are definite proof this is a true principle. Whenever they can understand the “why” they can at least make a choice. Helping kids exercise their autonomy and recognize that they are making choices based on principles is one of the most important things a parent can do.
I totally agree. It’s a divine plan, for it’s precisely what our Father in Heaven has done with us. He’s given us the principles, but also the free-agency to choose.
It works in business as well as it does in families as well.
